As part of the Club’s rebranding back to St Marys Diggers and Band Club, the Brell House project was developed to reposition the venue as a contemporary hospitality destination grounded in local identity and community use.
The project involved the adaptive reuse of an underperforming area of the Club to create a flexible indoor–outdoor food and beverage venue that could appeal to a broader Western Sydney demographic, including families, younger patrons, and event-based users. The design drew on St Marys’ industrial and working-class heritage, referencing the former Brell tannery through materiality, scale, and spatial expression, while delivering a warm and accessible environment suited to modern hospitality expectations.
Key considerations included clear patron flow, strong visual connection to landscaped gardens and play areas, and operational flexibility to support everyday dining, casual gatherings, and larger functions. High-volume service requirements were balanced with relaxed, hospitality-led spaces that could transition seamlessly between uses.
Brell House now operates as a central activation within the Club, supporting increased community engagement, diversified patronage, and a long-term strategy focused on relevance, adaptability, and sustainable growth.
